Nuzzling like a mole...
A mole is a rare creature in this valley,
.. though gophers are abundant and integral,
..... carving channels for rivulets below the surface
....... and leaving subnivean casts to trace their passing
Perhaps that which is less frequently seen
.. serves as much purpose as a many mounded lawn,
..... providing both ecological function and role,
........ while myopically stuffing cheek pouches full.
How many terrainal features are loved
.. with caress and care and our ancestors bones
..... marking passages in time and change
........ as I share this passage with creatures seldom seen?
